Janine and Warren met in November 2002 at a party in Johannesburg. They were introduced (twice) by Derrick, a mutual friend who was one of Warren's best men at their wedding. Says Janine, “although Warren suggested that I didn't pay all that much attention to him at the first introduction, I was certainly paying attention at the second one!”

Warren's plan was to propose over a breakfast of champagne and chocolate croissants, followed by a celebratory weekend away at a game reserve. The plan went awry when she turned down all offers of food, so it ended up being a proposal over Warren’s mug of tea. Janine fondly recalls the experience. “He told me afterwards that, having built up his courage, there was no way he was going to delay things. We did end up drinking the champagne!”

Janine and Warren married at the historic Webersburg Estate, a striking location which they immediately fell in love with. Their big day was everything that they had hoped it would be, even though the weather was unusually grey for February. Luckily it cleared in time for the union.

The highlight of their day? “Walking hand in hand from the ceremony, realising that we were married... We have some great photos of us smiling at each other, looking pretty happy with ourselves.” They also loved that we kept the reception decor a special surprise. “The reception was a real celebration with all of our closest friends and for us it struck exactly the right balance, being elegant and classy while still being intimate, relaxed and a whole lot of fun.” The food was delicious - who could forget those canapés and midnight boerewors rolls! “The Aleit team did a fantastic job, from giving us ideas on a venue to suggesting service providers (all of whom were excellent) to arranging the day itself. In the week leading up to the wedding you handled everything in a highly professional manner, leaving us and our families to relax and enjoy the build-up and the day itself, where everything went like clockwork.”

The couple’s honeymoon started in Singapore, where they spent a few luxurious nights at the Raffles hotel. They later indulged their love for adventurous holidays and went to Sipidan, Borneo for scuba-diving, trekking in the rain forest and climbing Mount Kinabalu. “We had a great time, with the highlight probably being the diving in Sipidan, which was really beautiful.”

  • We loved planning the wedding together and made all our decisions jointly. As a result, it really felt like our wedding, as opposed to my wedding that Warren was invited to.

  • We recommend that you use the Aleit team. On our own we would have really struggled to organise a wedding that was everything we wanted, and we would probably have been very stressed in the lead up to the day.
