Inspired, original and uniquely African... These are words that describe the wedding of Lucy and Quintin which was held at Morukuru Lodge in Madikwe Game Reserve, located in the North-West Province. The couple, who work at this luxurious lodge, wanted a wedding that would capture their love of the African bush, but that would also include elegant vintage elements. It was a concept that we couldn’t wait to pull off, and the result was just as spectacular as we knew it would be!

After months of careful planning, logistical fine-tuning and several site inspections, the wedding day arrived. In keeping with the creative vision of the occasion, the ceremony was nothing less than magnificent. Guests were driven in Landrovers to a remote bush location, where a minimalist white platform with matching chairs created a striking venue that contrasted with the rugged bushveld landscape. In spite of the rural setting, no detail was overlooked; there were even crystal chandeliers in the acacia trees!

After the ceremony, pre-reception drinks were held at the beautiful Madikwe Gardens, a place of lush lawns, towering trees and indigenous vegetation. Plain white plinths with simple flower (and vegetable!) arrangements added to the scenery, while modern lounge furniture offered guests a comfortable place to sit and take in the surroundings. By Word of Mouth created delectable canapés that included snacks right off the braai, such as marinated Tandoori chicken kebabs served with a cucumber and coriander salsa served in mini bamboo sleeves.

The reception and after party were hosted in the main dinner area at Thakadu Lodge, where open blinds offered views of the bushveld and made it feel as if the outdoors were part of the decor itself. The tasteful look for the reception consisted of shades of cream and white, complemented with single vases of lilies and orchids. By Word of Mouth dazzled everyone with a sumptuous array of dishes, such as slow braised lamb shank with light gremolata risotto, braised spring greens and lightly sauced with a honey lemon jus. A dessert display rounded off the feast, including treats such as decadent cheesecake lollipops dipped in milk Belgium chocolate and rolled in cinder toffee honeycomb.
After a night of partying and dancing the wedding came to an end, but both the newlyweds and their guests will always remember it as an unforgettable African experience.
